2016 Nebbiolo, Weir Vineyard, Yorkville Highlands
Nebbiolo? Yes indeed! This really interesting variety is as challenging as Pinot Noir and produces a wine that is equal parts racy, intellectual and elegant.
We were thrilled when Bill Weir offered us the opportunity to try our hand at crafting Nebbiolo from his vineyard! The vines were grafted over from Pinot Noir as a tribute to Bill’s late sister-in-law, Elisabeth Friel, who was enamored with Nebbiolo.
Rose petals, cranberry and red plum waft from the glass of this sassy, lively and extremely bright Nebbiolo. Bracing acidity and tight fine-grained tannins are classic for this grape varietal and provide the structure and incredible longevity inherent in Nebbiolo. This is a great wine to pair with rich seafood and dishes with Asian spice.
